Thomas Sewid is fast becoming one of the most recognized Sasquatch investigators who shares his experiences with Sasquatch with many through his Facebook group Sasquatch Island. For decades Thomas lived in bush throughout what is called The Broughton Archipelago off north eastern Vancouver Island British Columbia. An area rich in reports and sightings of Sasquatch or as his Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations (Indian) Tribe call them, Dzoonakwa.
Dzoonakwa is the highest ranked crest for the Kwakwaka’wakw people and it’s displayed in their ceremonial Big House’s where the Chiefs host the sacred ceremony called Potlatch. At a Potlatch people will witness a Chief share his crest and ancestral story of Dzoonakwa by seeing a dancer in carved mask and regalia perform on the floor in front of hundreds. Each regalia and story sung by drummer/singers is amazing to behold.
Envision a ceremonial Bighouse interior with massive cedar logs carved with animal and spiritual creatures as the support pillars for building. Even the horizontal beams atop the carved house posts are carved. In the center of dirt floor is a massive central fire with a smoke hole high above. Along the back wall sit three or four rows of Chiefs in their traditional regalia. Behind them is about twenty or more drummer/singers encircling a hollowed out log that is their drum to beat upon with batons.

Drumming so loud that the wooden benches vibrate and in deep baritone song the building makes one feel they are in a spiritual realm. Then the hair covered Dzoonakwa dancer enters the floor to dance and posture the way an ancestor saw a Sasquatch.
To really understand this one should check out this link on YouTube of one of our Dzoonakwa dancers: https://youtu.be/q8Io7egD22Q
One can also ask to join Sasquatch Island on Facebook and as Thomas always says, “ Once you are accepted into group, go for a bathroom break, grab a beverage and scroll away for hours as they turn to days. I have posted so much information regarding the importance of Dzoonakwa/Sasquatch towards our Tribe and our high regard for the creatures that you shall be enthralled, entertained and educated.”
If one really wants to know about The Kwakwaka’wakw People and their beliefs, it’s highly recommended that one check out the website from the Umista Cultural Center in my traditional territory to learn more. www.umista.ca
This website is all about the U’mista Cultural Center and is a wealth of information about the Kwakwaka’wakw People and they even have information about Dzoonakwa. If you search through website one will see videos of the Dzoonakwa performed at a Potlatch.
Thomas came into the Sasquatch enthusiast/social media industry in about 2014 all due to seeing that the people who are interested in Sasquatch needed to know about his tribes connection to Sasquatch. He also was continually rolling his eyes in insult when some non-Indian wrote or stated that the Kwakiutl a.k.a Kwakwaka’wakw Tribes’ name for Sasquatch is Bokwus.
Instead of being angered, Thomas chose to educate us that yes some British Columbia Tribes call their Sasquatch Bokwus, Boqs or Boqs Boqs, but the Kwakwaka’wakw Tribe called their Sasquatch Dzoonakwa
The Kwakwaka’wakw call Bokwus the small hair covered bipedal creature that is from the spiritual world and is Chief of The Ghost World.
Bokwus to the Kwakwaka’wakw Tribe, whereas other Tribes call them Little People or Stick People. Thomas is a Sasquatch investigator, but he has considerable amount of information regarding the small hair covered bipedal creatures seen in many regions of North America.
This painting for example was created by an artist who was walking on a remote beach in Alaska. He saw a bumper/balloon just inside the forest and when he walked up to it, these small hair covered creatures began to hiss and growl at him. He left as fast as he could, got in his dingy and went out to his anchored sailboat.
It’s been Thomas’s quest for many decades to educate people that there are two hair covered bi-pedal creatures that the coastal First Nations have been sharing their worlds with since the dawn of Creation. In doing so, he has seen and heard how people yearn for the North American perspectives, beliefs and encounter stories of Sasquatch present and historic.
One of the unique qualities Thomas has over any other Sasquatch investigator is he lived in bush for decades and has spent a lifetime commercial fishing throughout the British Columbia coast. He has spent considerable time in isolated Indian villages hearing their stories about the Sasquatch and The Little People/Bokwus.
If one asks Thomas how many times he’s been around Sasquatch or seen them he will state, “I have seen them many times and heard or smelt them many more times. They are always around, but you will not see them unless you turn the tables on them and use bush tricks and knowledge to outsmart them. You see, they have forgotten more about the bush world than we will ever know.”
This sums up what Sasquatch Island Facebook group and Sasquatch Island YouTube Channel is all about – teaching people how to get up close encounters of the hairy kind with Sasquatch. This includes the many podcast and video casts Thomas has done to date. One just has to Google “Thomas Sewid Sasquatch Island podcasts” to hear and see much of what he’s done to date.
If you want to know more about Sasquatch one can take a Sasquatch investigation with Thomas on Vancouver Island British Columbia or meet with him in Kent Washington where he hangs his hat with his common law wife Peggy Seaview when he’s not commercial fishing or Sasquatch investigating.
